October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!
“Since 2004, the President of the United States and
Congress have declared October to be Cybersecurity
Awareness Month, helping individuals protect
themselves online as threats to technology and
confidential data become more commonplace.”
This year’s theme is “See Yourself in Cyber.” Cybersecurity is EVERYONE’S job. It is important to remember that cybersecurity isn’t just the responsibility of tech experts. Everyone should get familiar with common cyber attacks and cyber threats. Staying educated about such things helps to reduce cyber-crime in your home and in the workplace.
A lot of people falsely rely on cybersecurity professionals alone to keep them and their businesses safe. This is not smart, as cyber criminals often target the average user in a business in order to compromise the entire company. They go for who they perceive to be the “weakest link”, the person who is unaware of basic cyber security risks.
Therefore, it is your responsibility to stay educated and aware when navigating the online world. This way, you can easily recognize and help stop cyber attacks in their tracks. You will also be able to help educate those around you so that they too can be aware of the cyber risks that are so prevalent in our world today.
This month, we encourage you to learn about some of the major cyber threats facing our world today, including but not limited to:
- Ransomware
- Phishing
- Malware
- Data Breaches
- Social Engineering
- Physical Cyber Attacks
- Computer Viruses
Here at Freedomnet, we will be posting tips on the blog all month long as well, so stay tuned and start learning!
